1980s - FORTY+ YEARS OF MILESTONES. . .

1981
The Youth Council maintained a recreational component to programming while also focusing on prevention and early intervention services for youth in order to keep them from entering and/or further penetrating the juvenile justice system.

1982
The Edmond community began to experience rapid growth which brought the development of other facilities offering recreational opportunities to the youth of Edmond. Edmond Youth Council, at this same time, housed the first alternative school for the community.

1985
New funding sources became available for delinquency prevention and intervention programs. These funds created a new statewide emphasis on counseling for youth and families. The Council extended services to include new areas of therapy.

1988
Information and referral systems developed with other area groups working with youth. They began to recognize Edmond Youth Council as an excellent referral source for counseling and related services. Increases in referrals required another move, this time to 400 South Broadway.
